Does my Patient Qualify for HomeCare?

  1. Patient must need, and a doctor must certify that patient needs, one or more of the following:
    • Intermittent skilled nursing care
    • Physical therapy
    • Speech-language pathology services
    • Continued Occupational therapy
  2. A patient must be homebound, and a doctor must certify that the patient is homebound. An individual does not have to be bedridden to be considered homebound. The Medicare definition states that occasional absences from the home for non-medical purposes (a trip to the barber, a walk around the block or a drive) will not necessarily disqualify a beneficiary from being classified as homebound. However, the absences must be infrequent or of a relatively short duration. The following is the Medicare definition of homebound.Homebound means that leaving home is a taxing effort. A person may leave home for medical treatment or for short, infrequent absences for non-medical reasons, such as a trip to attend religious services. In certain circumstances you can still receive home health care even if you attend adult day care.
